Dental treatments

Dental treatments are a variety of treatments of the teeth and adjacent tissues to restore or maintain normal oral health and function. Despite improvements in dental care, millions of peoples suffer tooth loss, mostly due to tooth decay, periodontal disease, or injury.

The teeth are the hardest substances in the human body. Besides being essential for chewing, the teeth play an important role in speech. A normal adult mouth has 32 teeth, which (except for wisdom teeth) have erupted by about age 13. The purpose of cleaning teeth is to remove plaque, which consists mostly of bacteria. Healthcare professionals recommend regular brushing twice a day (in the morning and in the evening, or after meals) in order to prevent formation of plaque and tartar.

A toothache is a pain in or around a tooth that may be caused by:

Toothache and jaw pain are common complaints. It is not unusual for one to feel mild pain from pressure and hot or cold exposure to the tooth. However, if the pain is severe or persists for longer than 15 seconds after the pressure or temperature exposure ceases, then this could be an indication of a more serious problem.

The history of Dental treatments (dentistry) is almost as ancient as the history of humanity and civilization with the earliest evidence dating from 7000 BC.

Dental treatment for a toothache depends on the cause. Most Common dental treatments are: Bonding, Braces, Root canals, Fillings and repair and Extraction

A common cosmetic dental treatment procedure. Facings, or veneers, can cover a multitude of problems: stains, old discoloured fillings, crooked, broken and chipped teeth plus wide spaces between teeth. Facings suit the front top teeth between and often including eyeteeth.

More serious and extreme appearance problems involving the shape of the jaw and teeth can be corrected using surgery to reshape and realign the jaw.

The majority of dental treatments are carried out to prevent or treat the two most common oral diseases which are dental caries (tooth decay) and periodontal disease (gum disease or pyorrhea). Common dental treatments involve the restoration of teeth, extraction or surgical removal of teeth, scaling and root planing, endodontic root canal treatment and Periodontal surgery.

For an adult, a loose tooth can be alarming. However, the tooth can sometimes be saved, especially when the problem is detected early. If a tooth is lost or must be removed, a number of restorative methods can give the appearance of a natural tooth. Of all the ways modern dentistry has to replace missing teeth, dental implants are by far the best.

Other reasons for referring to the dentist are cosmetic and restorative treatments, and the most common of these treatments is to correct the smile pattern (smile makeover).
